Garden tips to add £86k* to the value of your home

Share

Throughout the pandemic , those without any outdoor space have looked on in envy as homeowners have enjoyed their back gardens more than ever, with people using these spaces even more to entertain friends with BBQs and parties.

But it’s not just the health and social benefits – a well turned out garden can add thousands to the asking price of your home. Garden experts at MyToolShed have come up with six simple ways to really improve the value of your home by 34 .8%.  Here we take a look….

  1. Deck It Out – Value Increase = 10% (£25k)

Installing a deck on your property creates a focal point in your garden, which is ideal for summer barbeques, lazy Sundays and classy evening dinner parties.  Decks are a sought-after feature for homebuyers, as they add square footage onto the house and create the image of an idyllic lifestyle.

  1. A New Lick Of Paint  – Value Increase = 5% (£12 .5k)

It’s not just plants that add welcome colour to a garden, painting a wall or fence can add character and keep the whole look fresh and modern.

  1. Weatherproof Exterior Walls  – Value Increase = 3 .6% (£9k)

Exterior wall coating can really refresh and rejuvenate a tired-looking home exterior. If your home’s exterior walls are not waterproofed, you can face damage  and damp from invading moisture.

  1. Add a Firepit  – Value Increase = 1 .2% (£3k)

Fire pits are ideal for creating an al fresco lounge space. Much like indoor fireplaces, fire pits provide the perfect focal point for an outdoor sitting area, and they look fantastic surrounded by outdoor sofas or seating.

  1. A Garden Building  – Value Increase = 5% (£12 .5k)

Outbuildings are all the rage with many of us becoming comfortable with spending more time at home, and give the opportunity to create your own personal retreat.

  1. Let The Outside In With Bifolding Doors  – Value Increase = 10% (£25k)

With bi-fold doors you don’t need to physically be outside to feel a sense of freedom.

You can experience the comfort of being indoors whilst also being able to enjoy your outdoor space.

*A study by the DIY experts revealed with the average house price in the UK as of January 2021 costing £249,309 these changes could amount to a 34 .8% increase which is a whopping £86,760 increase in value.
